First state examination in law in 1989 after studying in Kiel, then research assistant at Saarland University. Doctorate in 1992 on the method of legal informatics as part of a study on research techniques in legal databases and developed the concept for the semi-formal language TakeLaw in this monograph as the basis for the later digital legal method.

1995 Second state examination in law in Saarbrücken, then conceptualisation of the electronic land register as a consultant at the Ministry of Justice in Schwerin. Since 1998 Professor of Commercial Law, Information and Communications Law including Legal Informatics at the University of Wismar.

Developed the digital legal method TakeLaw from 2003 in cooperation with Bucerius Law School (2003 - 2006) and designed and realised the online study programme in commercial law at Wismar University of Applied Sciences (LL.B.) from 2008 and at the Hamburger Fern-Hochschule (LL.B. and LL.M.) from 2012.

Main research interests: Digital legal method, visualisation of rational justifications, concepts of digital teaching, discourse theory, legal tech.

Rector of the Mediadesign University since April 2024.
